My photography originally
stems from an interest in what distinguishes a good picture from an
average one. On numerous occasions, I have been intrigued by the manner
in which some imagery can trigger a more pronounced reaction (intimacy,
awe, shock) than others.
It is the infusion of emotion
within an image which is of challenge and source of inspiration. I centre
on this basic yet elusive goal: the ability to provoke an emotional
response from the viewer.
Monochrome
I primarily concentrate on Black & White
photography. I shoot in monochrome because of its ability to create
stunning abstracts and to reduce scenes to lovely or dramatic shades
of grey.
In addition, it forces the viewer to concentrate
on the texture and form of a scene or subject. Its starkness makes it
much easier to deliver a powerful message by focusing attention on what
the photograph is really about.
People
Portraiture is my chosen subject at the moment.
The search for the true personality of the sitter makes it one of the
most fascinating areas of photography. It is in effect a visual statement
about their character.
